At EMLI, we turn sustainable ideas into practical, community-led action. Our work focuses on protecting the environment, strengthening sustainable livelihoods, improving access to health services, and expanding inclusive educational opportunities. Through our four core pillars—Environment, Agriculture, Health, and Education—we work alongside communities, especially women, youth, and children, to address local challenges, build resilience, and create lasting opportunities for a healthier and more sustainable future.
Enhancing WASH in Schools and Healthcare facilities in Buea.
Environment
Goal: To promote species and biodiversity conservation, water and sanitation, and menstrual hygiene management.
Why this goal?

Ecological Stability: Cameroon’s rich biodiversity and unique wildlife species face severe threats from poaching, deforestation, and habitat loss.

Public Health: Poor access to clean water and sanitation leads to preventable waterborne diseases.

Dignity & Equity: Menstrual hygiene is a critical barrier to education and social participation for girls.

Resource Security: Protecting critical habitats and watersheds ensures long-term availability of resources for both wildlife and people.
How will EMLI achieve it?

Species Conservation: Partnering with local communities to monitor endangered wildlife, combat poaching by providing alternative sources of livelihood, and protect critical migration corridors.

Habitat Restoration: Implementing tree planting and reforestation projects to restore degraded ecosystems and wildlife habitats.

WASH Infrastructure: Constructing and rehabilitating community water points and gender-sensitive sanitation facilities.

Agriculture
Goal: Enhancing food security and sustainable rural livelihoods, climate resilience, and sustainability.
Why this goal?

Hunger Alleviation: High levels of food insecurity persist in rural and conflict-affected regions of Cameroon.

Climate Vulnerability: Smallholder farmers are highly susceptible to unpredictable weather and climate shocks.

Economic Stability: Agriculture is the primary source of income for most rural households in Cameroon.
How will EMLI achieve it?

Climate-Smart Training: Training farmers on regenerative techniques, such as organic farming and pest management.

Resource Distribution: Providing improved seeds, livestock (like piglets or layers), and modern irrigation techniques and tools.

Financial Empowerment: Offering financial literacy training and establishing community-based microcredit schemes.

Agroforestry: Promoting the integration of trees into farming systems to improve soil health and yield.

Collaborating with stakeholders for Policy Influence: Advocating for stronger climate policies at local, national, and regional levels to support environmental sustainability.
Training internally displaced women in Bimbia on climate-smart agriculture techniques, agribusiness and providing them with seeds and tools/equipment to improve crop yields, income, and overall standard of living.
Training smallholder farmers on agroforestry and production of organic fertilizers and pesticides using local materials
Education
Goal: Expanding access to quality education and learning opportunities.
Why this goal?

Health
Goal: Improving access to healthcare, public health outcomes, and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR).
Why this goal?

Maternal Safety: Cameroon faces challenges in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

Empowerment: Access to SRH services allows individuals to make informed decisions about their lives and families.
How will EMLI achieve it?

Mobile Clinics: Organizing outreach camps to provide vaccines, screenings, and treatment in remote villages.

SRH Education: Providing adolescent-friendly counselling on sexual health and reproductive rights.

Health Infrastructure: Partnering with local authorities to strengthen existing community health centres.

Disease Surveillance: Training community members to identify and report early signs of infectious disease outbreaks.
Improving the nutritional status of pregnant women, lactating women, adolescent girls, and children under 5, in Bova, Bokwai and Bonakanda villages by providing an integrated package of health and nutrition, water and sanitation and agriculture interventions in an integrated manner.
